Fair Housing Scholarship
People’s Self-Help Housing Offers Two Scholarships.
April is National Fair Housing Month. Fair Housing protects a person's basic right to choose where they want to live.
Title VIII of the 1968 Civil Rights Act (Federal Fair Housing Act) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, leasing, financing of housing or land to be used for construction of housing, because of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 expanded coverage to include disabled persons and families with children, and HUD 2012 regulations expanded coverage to sexual orientation or gender identity.
In recognition of Fair Housing Month, two $500 scholarships are being offered by People’s Self-Help Housing, Inc. to graduating Lewis County High School seniors or non-traditional students obtaining their GED through the MCTC Lewis County Adult Education Center. Applicants must intend to begin post-secondary education in the Fall of 2024, demonstrate financial need, and be committed to serving our local community.
Applications are available at Lewis County High School and at People's Self-Help Housing's main office at 307 KY 59, Vanceburg, KY or it can be downloaded from the PSHH’s website at www.pshhinc.org, (click on “Other Services”).
