Meet PSHH Homeowners Rosemary Applegate initially came to PSHH to request repairs on her older model mobile home. Her home was in need of major repairs, and Rosemary was struggling to afford the utility bills which ran as high as $500 per month during the winter. Rosemary finally decided to apply for a new home since she didn’t want to keep pouring money into her aging mobile home and because she needed more space than was available in her home. Rosemary attended the “Yes, You Can Own a Home” homeownership class and met with the PSHH Director of Finance to arrange affordable financing. Her mobile home was removed from the property, and a new home was built on the same site. Rosemary moved into her new home in February 2010. Rosemary loves her “little mansion on the hill”, a phrase coined by one of her neighbors to describe Rosemary’s house. Her new home is more spacious than her previous one, and her utility bills are already much more affordable! The home was also built around a special garden in the front yard which Rosemary’s late husband had created for her enjoyment. Rosemary compared her initial reaction upon seeing her new home to the feelings of joy and surprise experienced by homeowners on home makeover television programs!
Shelby Richmond grew worried as winter approached in late 2008. The old house she and her three children were living in was nearly impossible to keep warm during the winter months, and the cost of adequately heating the home was more than she could afford. Shelby knew that she and her family could not spend another winter there. Shelby had inquired about homeownership through PSHH almost three years earlier. During those years, she worked hard to find a steady job, build a strong credit history, and prepare herself for the responsibilities of homeownership. Her hard work and perseverance paid off when she and her family moved into their new three-bedroom home in the Fuller Branch Subdivision in December 2008. Shelby loves everything about her new home: the size of the rooms, the large backyard, and the affordable monthly payment. Most of all, she enjoys no longer having to worry about high utility bills or trying to keep her children warm during the cold winter months. Shelby and her family are looking forward to enjoying many, many years to come in their new home.
