Rental Assistance Programs

In addition to our long-term rental units, PSHH offers the following short-term housing assistance programs:

Emergency Shelter
Five (5) emergency shelter apartments are available for homeless households. Each apartment is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer, and all utilities are paid by PSHH. Rent is calculated at 30% of tenant’s gross household income after the first month, and a security deposit is required. Tenants may stay in an emergency shelter apartment for a maximum of six months. All shelter tenants are required to meet monthly with a PSHH
Case Manager who will assist them in finding permanent housing, employment, pursuing education, vocational training or other needs.

Transitional Housing
Seventeen (17) transitional housing units in Lewis County are available for homeless households.  Each apartment is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer, and all utilities are paid by PSHH. Tenants pay 30% of gross income for rent, and a security deposit is required. Tenant-Based Rental Assistance

This PSHH program allows eligible recipients to receive a monthly subsidy toward their rent and possibly utilities, depending on household income, for up to 12 months while living in a rental unit of their choice in Lewis County. All rental units must pass a Housing Quality Standards inspection, ensuring the unit is safe and sanitary.  Monthly rent subsidy payments are made directly to qualified landlords. Utility subsidies, if any, are made directly to the utility company on behalf of the recipient. There are a limited number of slots available for this program, and applicants are served on a first-come, first-served basis. Recipients may be offered the option of lease renewal for one additional year (i.e., maximum 24 months) provided funding is available and the recipient continues to meet all program requirements.

How do I apply for PSHH rental assistance programs?

You will need to complete an initial application for rental housing (click on Applications for Housing Programs).  You can stop by the PSHH rental office to pick up an application or call (606) 796-0811 and request than an application be mailed to you. Once we receive your application, we will determine what type of housing assistance you are eligible to receive.  If a unit is not immediately available, we will add your name to the waiting list.
